Hi Susan! Divot sure is a cutie! It usaully takes time for a puppy to get used to the crate! Remember this is the first time Divot is away from her brothers, sisters and Mom which explains the screaming! Put something in the crate with your or Howard's smell- old towel, sweatshirt etc. Never use the crate as punishment - you never want Divot to be fearful of the crate - it should be a safe place for her that is just hers! I think you mentioned you put treats in there for her - maybe a handful of whatever dried dog food she is eating will help too. You can always buy a water bottle to hook to the door also so she has water availabe. Some people are opposed to crate training but I think it is essential - if your traveling by car - the crate keeps the dog from roaming around in the car. If at home and the dog is in a crate - makes it easier for firefighters God forbid something happens to your house and they need to get the dog out. Makes going to the vet easier since you never know who is in the waiting room. It also helps with housebreaking because they won't go to the bathroom where they sleep. I hope this helps you out!

I crate trained my dog-no problem cried only 1 night. Do not give in if they are crying just let them be they will stop...
