It's National Safe Boating Week. A fun day on the water can turn deadly if you make poor choices. Here are some ways to ensure a fun and safe day on the water.
Safe boating requires safe boat operation and safe waters. Safe and secure waters are patrolled by the U.S. Coast Guard and other security forces. Give them a helping hand and ALWAYS wear your life jacket. Be "on patrol" to keep our waters safe.
Bad weather has a dampening effect on any boating experience. The wind, rain and rough water associated with bad weather poses a safety hazard to the unsuspecting boater. The best thing a boater can do is to avoid bad weather by anticipating it. Recognize it early, and head for shore. If you are in a small craft on a large body of water, head to the safety of the harbor.
